Description of CNU Group

In 2016, PWN President, Courtney Buzzell, owner of Proximo Marketing Strategies, a Yorktown-based Social and Digital Marketing Firm, and Dr. Angela Spranger, SPHR, SHRM-SCP Faculty advisor for CNU, also a PWN member, initiated an on-campus focus group at Christopher Newport University.

The initial board of 5 students was comprised of juniors and seniors at the Chritopher Newport University Luter School of Business, with majors ranging from Marketing and Business Management, to International Leadership Studies.

The group was sanctioned to provide networking and mentoring for the business students, as well as the opportunity for PWN, America's longest consecutive running women's networking organization, to bridge the generational gap and gain a better understanding of what female leaders need, in this technology driven world.

“The Generational Shift is happening, and is changing the way our world communicates, connects and drives this economy. The members of our organization have the opportunity to embrace this change with the knowledge that these phenomenal students are providing, and the students themselves are just as excited to develop powerful relationships with the women within our community, that inspire them,” said Courtney Buzzell on behalf of the organization. “It’s a win-win relationship and we are excited to have the support of such a respected University and talented group of young women.”

In late 2016, the PWN board voted to approve scholarships for five female students of the CNU Luter School Of Business that demonstrated leadership skills within the community, and a passion for empowering other like-minded women.

CWN is the first, of what PWN hopes to be numerous, on-campus focus groups throughout the Hampton Roads and surrounding areas.
